If you're looking to purchase an automated vacuum cleaner that can do more than just clean floors, your best option is probably a hybrid. These machines are equipped with a tank of water so they can mop and vacuum simultaneously. They also come with a variety of extra features like smart mapping, small object avoidance, and the capability to wash and dry mopping pads. The downside is that they can be expensive at retail, but on Black Friday and Cyber Monday they usually drop in price.
Roborock is the manufacturer of some of our most loved robotic vacuums and the Q5+ doesn't fail to impress. This is the least expensive model of their auto-empty line. Although it doesn't have some of the more luxurious features (like no-go areas and multi-story memories) but it's a great choice for those who are willing to make some compromises to save a few bucks.
The Q5+ is notably gentle around obstacles such as tables and walls which makes it a good choice for homes with lots of furniture. It is also very thorough in cleaning dust bunnies. This is a place where many cheaper robot vacuums do not excel in. The Q5+'s navigation system is also top-quality, with a few misses along walls and in corners.
The Q5+, as with other Roborock products can be controlled via just a few buttons on the device or via the Roborock App. The app allows you to start and stop cleanings. You can also set up schedules, create virtual barriers and no-go zones, modify your home map or re-label rooms.
If you choose the Q5+ it comes with a new auto-emptying dock, designed to make this robot easier to maintain. Installing it requires a screwdriver, but once in place it is done easily. It also features a large LCD display that is great to have when creating schedules or changing settings. This feature isn't required for the majority of people, but it can help to keep the robot's maintenance schedules.
3. Narwal Freo X Ultra
The Freo X Ultra robot vacuum and mop is a smart well-rounded vacuum and mop. It's capable of both vacuuming and mopping. Its design is one of the top in the market, but it's expensive.
The base station looks nice and is hidden when it's not in use, and the size is relatively compact. But the station's main selling factor is its ability to automate numerous tasks and functions that other robots will leave to you. It can store dirty and clean water, and then electrolyze and heat the water. The majority of other robots require you to do this.
And its vacuuming is impressive and efficient, too. It's one of the few robovacs I've tested that do a really good job of collecting debris from unfinished floors, and it's not as loud as the more expensive Roomba 980 or iRobot 900 series.
However, the Freo X Ultra has its faults, especially in terms of navigation. The laser and LiDAR sensors aren't as reliable as some other robovacs. This means it is sometimes stuck or confused in certain rooms or corners of your home. It also can't climb stairs as well as other models and doesn't come with a docking station to create a cleaning area for plush carpets.
